The Sanskrit word mudra (literally "seal") refers to a symbolic gesture usually made with the hands and fingers. They can be employed in meditation, puja, and yoga and may be combined with specific asanas (postures). Each mudra has a specific purpose or intention.

Mudra can also refer to the female partner in tantra. See also: Shakti.
