Four aims of life
From International Nath Order
The Four aims of life according to the Hindu way of life are kama, artha, dharma and moksha.
Kama
Kama is a Sanskrit term which refers to the pursuit of sensual gratification, sexual fulfillment, pleasure of the senses, love and other enjoyments as one of the four aims of life.
Artha
Artha is a Sanskrit term which refers to the pursuit of material prosperity, fame, and elevated social status as one of the four aims of life.
Dharma
Dharma is a Sanskrit term meaning manner of being or way of life. While it implies following a religious or, more accurately, a spiritual way of life, it defies dogma and seeks instead to align the human body, mind and soul in a harmonious relationship with nature. In Nath terminology, the result of pursuing dharma as one of the four aims of life is referred to by the keywords Peace, Freedom, and Happiness.
Moksha
Moksha (Sanskrit: मोक्ष, liberation) or Mukti (Sanskrit: विमुक्ति, release) refers to release or liberation from the karmic cycle of death and rebirth on the earth plane. It is considered the highest of the four aims of life.
